Three bars for the Third. The poster for Gustav Mahler's Third Symphony takes Alfred Roller's design for the 1910 premiere of the Eighth Symphony as its point of departure. Roller had worked with Mahler since 1902 and developed posters and stage designs for his performances.

The three vertical forms become a simple symbol for the work and at the same time establish the order of the poster. Like the symphony itself, the design is clearly structured, from the natural and elemental character of the opening movements to the wide open, tranquil finale. The monumentality of the forms is set alongside a deliberately concise typographic order.

Opti Kabel Five is based on Rudolf Koch's Kabel from 1927, a geometric grotesque with distinctive, less rigid forms. Its narrow, vertical appearance supports the monumental structure of the motif and connects the historical reference with a contemporary setting.

For the three performances by the Junge Südwestdeutsche Philharmonie, a programme booklet was created alongside the poster series. It continues the design in a noticeably calmer and primarily typographic form.
