For the fortieth anniversary of the Landesjugendchor Rheinland-Pfalz, a poster was created that interweaves church interior and typography into a single field. The words “40 Jahre” lie across the vault of St Martin's parish church, where the ceremony took place. Architecture and lettering penetrate one another without displacing each other.
The grotesque typeface appears in compact capitals without ornament. Where it lies transparently over the photograph of the church, every arcade becomes part of the lettering and every arch an echo of the letterform. Date, place and direction remain unaffected.
The LandesJugendChor Rheinland-Pfalz was founded in 1982 by Prof. Heinz Anton Höhnen and Karl-Günther Bechtel and has brought together young voices from across the state ever since.
