A website was created for the GRADUS International Piano Academy Mainz, bringing together support, applications, masterclasses, scholarships and concert venues in a clearly structured format. Generous areas, strong imagery and calm typography define the presentation; German and English are treated equally. The typeface used is Afacad by Kristian Möller. It originated from a lettering project begun in 2017, with proportions based on Sture Elmén’s architecture from the 1940s. Its open, matter-of-fact form suits the clear organisation of the site and remains highly legible even in longer texts.
GRADUS is an excellence programme of the Mainz School of Music for young pianists. The name refers to the historic “Gradus ad Parnassum” teaching works by Clementi and Fux, and thus to the idea of step-by-step artistic learning. In addition to the International Piano Academy, the programme also includes GRADUS YOUNG, as well as masterclasses, scholarships and performance opportunities with partners such as the Deutsche Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz.
