Bureau Haussknecht is a creative studio for visual communication and identities across media, based in Mainz’s Neustadt district.
Good design begins with a clear idea. Every project therefore starts with a sound concept that articulates its content precisely, both visually and verbally. It provides the foundation for corporate design, editorial design, branding, and digital and print applications. The aim is to create solutions that work reliably and are aesthetically compelling.
Founded in Weimar, the studio is shaped by the Bauhaus and the city’s cultural diversity. Its name recalls the botanist and explorer Heinrich Carl Haussknecht. Bureau Haussknecht’s work combines conceptual depth with clear, contemporary design and remains committed to the same precision of observation that distinguished Haussknecht’s research.
Johannes Wendel is a violinist who has performed with leading orchestras, including the SWR Symphony Orchestra, the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra, the Frankfurt Opera and Museum Orchestra, the Saarland State Orchestra, and the Mainz State Philharmonic Orchestra. He studied in Mainz, Weimar, Essen, and Madrid and is a founding member of the Davidoff Trio, which has received numerous awards.
Alongside his artistic work, he develops communication and design concepts with a particular focus on cultural institutions and individuals. These include logo design and rebranding, campaigns across media, print and web design, as well as concert and project planning. Both fields begin from the same premise: an idea should be examined and refined until it reaches its clearest form, whether on stage or on paper.
